The chances you've played these games are slim. Very slim. We're talking about arcade games made by Atari limited to runs of 2 or 3. Prototypes from dumpsters and ex-employee yard sales, original (hand-drawn!) marquees, garage-soldered circuit boards.

Somehow, this one guy keeps getting his hands on them. Lucky bastard. Sure obsessions like this might seem unhealthy, but he has working versions of Marble Man, Primal Rage II, and Beavis and Butthead; you don't.post:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339Thu, 31 Jan 2002 08:58:01 -0800jcterminalvideogamesprototypesarcadegamesmarblemanprimalragebeavisandbuttheadBy: Kafkaesque

Pretty neat. Reminds me of the legendary Atari test room that was spoken of in hushed whispers when I was a kid.
Myself, I'm waiting til I have room for one of these. Pinball is still the best game in the world if ya axe me.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216025Thu, 31 Jan 2002 09:04:47 -0800KafkaesqueBy: vbfg

Sweet.
I know it's like talking about cds to a dj spinning vynil, but I've found some of the rarer 2600 games for Stella floating around the net. Mostly the games that didn't sell or were very hard to find at the time (Custer's Revenge, Friday the 13th). Of course using my keyboard isn't the same as the sweet ass old 2600 sticks.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216035Thu, 31 Jan 2002 09:13:57 -0800eyeballkidBy: trioperative

I agree with eyeballkid, about it not being as fun when playing with a keyboard, but it sure is hell is still fun to play paperboy, having been reminded from that site how fun it used to be.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216051Thu, 31 Jan 2002 09:29:56 -0800trioperativeBy: mathowie

At last year's arcade extreme show in San Jose, I got to play these. They were surprisingly complete, with cabinet art and everything.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216070Thu, 31 Jan 2002 09:44:23 -0800mathowieBy: NortonDC

As do I, eyeballkid, but I haven't seen a cabinet in maybe 15 years, so I was hoping this guy would have one his site.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216174Thu, 31 Jan 2002 11:07:40 -0800NortonDCBy: waxpancake

The documents and art in his collection are rather interesting, too. The goofy bellbottom conception art for the box cabinets are sweet. And I enjoyed reading the proposals for Star Wars, as well as LucasArts response which called for change for some inconsistancies with the Star Wars arcade game.comment:www.metafilter.com,2002:site.14339-216322Thu, 31 Jan 2002 13:13:48 -0800crog
¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
