Actually Google has been doing something kinda similar. When you look up certain businesses or locations, there's short profile of the business or place in question. Sometimes in the profile there's a bar graph detailing <a href="https://plus.google.com/+google/posts/QY1c97V25Tz">"popular times</a>", which details how popular a place is by the hour. I'm pretty sure this is based on location data that phones give off, and possibly searches for a business at certain hours in different Google apps.comment:www.metafilter.com,2015:site.154428-6272877Wed, 04 Nov 2015 10:45:10 -0800FJTBy: kokaku

Does it say how exactly they're analyzing the data? Ideally, I'd like to see them using data over a period of time, comparing right now to other similar times (weekdays, time of day, maybe weight it for more recent data to account for time of year). Of course, I suspect that this would just lead to the thing any dedicated hater of people should know, which is do things earlier than other people. Breakfast, not brunch, on weekends, and hit the bar by 5:00 (a little earlier on weekdays, if you can swing it). Hopefully, by the time those awful people start crowding in on your space, you're too drunk to care!comment:www.metafilter.com,2015:site.154428-6272906Wed, 04 Nov 2015 10:55:33 -0800BulgaroktonosBy: jessssse

Weird, my number 2 result is the coffee and donut shop that is only ever not completely busy between 8 and 9 in the morning. It would take me five minutes to go and check and see that yes, its busy. Very busy. You can sit outside when it's threatening to rain but that's about it.
Number 3 is the JJ Beans which again, is always full. I actually have to scroll down quite a bit to find a place, a nice little park, that I know won't be busy. Maybe there's no one on foursquare where I live? That sounds about right. The places it doesn't list, which would actually be open and empty, interest me quite a bit more.comment:www.metafilter.com,2015:site.154428-6272995Wed, 04 Nov 2015 11:33:15 -0800NeronomiusBy: colie

I too am baffled Foursquare is still a thing (or is it now called Facebook places?). I'd use this to avoid places, but I have a feeling I would need to turn on active GP tracking or whatsit. I think I will just use my "Eh, a queue, it must be shit" rule.

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
