In Mamas Kitchen was born in the experience of living in New York where a bodega exists within blocks of a Jewish deli which is around the corner from an Italian salumeria which shares space with Chinatown which abuts Soho's gourmet stores. While this speaks of the legendary variety available in New York, it also tells of similarity, for in every bodega, every salumeria is someone shopping for the food that sustains physical life with a recipe that nourishes our hearts.post:www.metafilter.com,2008:site.77468Mon, 15 Dec 2008 21:38:32 -0800netbrosinmamaskitchencookingfoodrecipesnewyorknycjewishcubanmexicanafghanitalianchinesesicilianirishindianaustralianBy: nasreddin

[removed a few comments and complaints about comments - can we have a do-over? this is a recipes site. you can go hate New York in MetaTalk if you must.]comment:www.metafilter.com,2008:site.77468-2378478Tue, 16 Dec 2008 06:13:32 -0800jessamynBy: Pollomacho

It's a nice site, neat recipes. I could do with more love for mama and a little less New York in the about page (and thus the FPP) though, especially since it doesn't seem to factor at all in any other page and seems rather out of place in a site that isn't actually about New York. That aside, neat-o.comment:www.metafilter.com,2008:site.77468-2378486Tue, 16 Dec 2008 06:28:09 -0800PollomachoBy: incomple

I want to apologize for my (deleted) comment. I'm actually a NYC resident and am bursting with civic pride... I suppose my comment was more just intended as a pre-emptive snark, because I know how it goes whenever someone makes a post about how fucking awesome New York is. (Also, in my defense, my narcissistic comment was entirely accurate.)
I actually find the main link to be quite solid and absolutely no offense was meant, so I hope not too much was taken. Sorry netbros!comment:www.metafilter.com,2008:site.77468-2378532Tue, 16 Dec 2008 07:32:29 -0800incompleBy: nax

This is great. I love the cultural histories and family stories that go along with the recipes. Thanks!comment:www.metafilter.com,2008:site.77468-2379659Tue, 16 Dec 2008 19:41:06 -0800cybercoitus interruptus
¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
