<a href="http://www.b-rhymes.com/">B-Rhymes</a> is a rhyming dictionary that compares words based on their sounds, making it ideal for finding near-rhymes.post:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217Mon, 15 Feb 2010 02:19:29 -0800archagonpoetryrhymingrhymesdictionarywritingtoolsBy: doublehappy

I'll be buggered if I can remember the song, but I was thoroughly impressed by a lightweight, radio friendly pop band who rhymed <strong>corner </strong>with <strong>want to</strong>.
corner = co-nah!
want to = wo-nah!
It was a hit in Australia maybe five years ago, give or take.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217-2950875Mon, 15 Feb 2010 03:24:56 -0800uncanny hengemanBy: griphus

You can click on the results and get near rhymes for near rhymes. So you get something like:
quixotic > devoted > distorted > interpret > birthrate. Since "quixotic" is nowhere near "birthrate" the relation "nearly rhymes with" does not have the transitivity of "rhymes with", which would limit application beyond couplets or triplets.comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217-2950886Mon, 15 Feb 2010 03:56:58 -0800twoleftfeetBy: willF

It could get pretty ridiculous
My favorite from Ice Cube:
Droppin bombs on your moms,
Kill car alarms
Just for funI looked up <a href="http://www.b-rhymes.com/rhyme/word/alarm?page=5">alarms</a> in the B-Rhymes site, and "moms" was nowhere near the list, even if affront was the 99th suggestion.
Makes me think I can rap nowcomment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217-2950961Mon, 15 Feb 2010 06:16:16 -0800elemenopeeBy: willF

One of my favorite rhymes are the 'b' lines in the last stanza of Isaac Watt's Hymn 158:
Lord, let not all my hopes be vain,
Create my heart entirely new,
Which hypocrites could ne'er attain,
Which false apostates never knew.
It's in the Sacred Harp (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKzwqV0yOdU">Windham, 38b</a>).comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217-2950974Mon, 15 Feb 2010 06:41:53 -0800willFBy: moviehawk

<em>I remember when Flo Rida rhymed "dope" with "dopes."</em>
Pfft...The Fray can top that:
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
A whopping 50% of their lyrics use rhymes that AREN'T the exact same word!comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.89217-2951006Mon, 15 Feb 2010 07:25:44 -0800moviehawkBy: The White Hat

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
