when you only weigh 85 pounds you can fall from virtually any height without being injured, like a bug falling out of an apartment window. ah, youth. posted by facetious at 11:17 PM on June 22, 2012

The aesthetic and sensibility of this was most pleasurable.
Also, there seem to be many things you can do with a skateboard that are counter-intuitive. I predict people treating the tops with teflon and riding them upside-down next. posted by poe at 12:19 AM on June 23, 2012 [1 favorite]

Yeah, me too. I found the whole low-key vibe and occasional missed landing and tumble kind of refreshing. posted by mhoye at 5:17 AM on June 23, 2012 [2 favorites]

Or, if you're skateboarding champion of the galaxy, you don't need the teflon: Rodney Mullen. posted by Zerowensboring at 6:42 AM on June 23, 2012 [2 favorites]
That thick clear lube he puts on a rail around the 3:40 mark? This is not the first Japanese video I have seen with that stuff, but it is the first skateboarding video I have seen with that stuff. posted by idiopath at 9:06 AM on June 23, 2012 [1 favorite]

Next time I hear a complaint about a lack of skate spots in a locale, I will whip out my goumiyagiPhone and play this video. Creativity, boy! That's what you're lacking! Now take a look at what this fellow can do and go out & play. posted by morganw at 10:30 AM on June 23, 2012

In fairness, you're looking at Japanese street architecture, there - one of the things that struck me most about Tokyo when I was there was how much of this heavy-pipe and rounded-edges street furnishing was around, built with a real sense of esthetics and permanence and completely unadorned by the various architectural filigrees that North Americans use to make surfaces unattractive for skateboarding.
North Americans by and large don't build public spaces that aren't actively hostile to anyone under 25 who's not in a car. posted by mhoye at 10:47 AM on June 23, 2012 [1 favorite]
I'd love to get the soundtrack for less than $20. Any leads? posted by Brocktoon at 11:45 PM on June 23, 2012
Actually, North Americans do. Both the Japanese and the Americans share many of the same overcrowding issues. posted by Brocktoon at 11:48 PM on June 23, 2012
Radness. Different style direction but similar skating ideals to the Chris Haslam/Daewon Song take on life (2.37 wallride on a lamp post!!). posted by Albondiga at 9:22 AM on June 24, 2012 [1 favorite]
I love how twice he grabs a rather unusual surface, showing how he's going to ride it and bam, slams right into it. Because that's exactly how I would do it. posted by chemoboy at 12:25 AM on June 26, 2012

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
