That's just wierd.
And, yes, a description would have been helpful. posted by silusGROK at 9:54 PM on December 6, 2003
Well¡ points for trying. The format is certainly well-done, if not particularly original. While I haven't heard of (and therefore haven't read) NFG before, this strip seems to fit in with the "We don't believe in typecast genres. Our artists make their own brand of fiction" attitude.
I don't know; something about the idea of "too good for genre" always bugged me. posted by DrJohnEvans at 9:58 PM on December 6, 2003
On a related note, some sort of contextual navigation would be nice. Having to hit 'archive' each time you want to look at a different comment kinda sucks. 'next', anyone? posted by kfury at 10:09 PM on December 6, 2003
I don't get it.
Maybe I'm not smart enough.
Maybe the comic sucks.
Maybe they're fucking with us.
My money's on the last choice. posted by jonmc at 10:21 PM on December 6, 2003
If Jack Handy were suffering depression and had a box full of old photographs...

Cynics R Us
It was fine and a few made me smile. Thanks. posted by stevis at 11:06 PM on December 6, 2003
Good. Very good. Like kaibutsu referenced, it is somewhat reminiscent of Jack Handy, but like the title says, "softer."
My favorite: Ducks. posted by davidmsc at 11:43 PM on December 6, 2003

Go to Le Pip bookstore on Ave. Richemont near the Port de Clichy, buy all the 10 Euro adult postcards and caption them. An adult world experience with like results. posted by lometogo at 4:29 AM on December 7, 2003
Descriptions are nice.
There's a minimalist vibe
On here today, though. posted by nthdegx at 5:16 AM on December 7, 2003

Some of them I really liked, and some of them I really didn't understand. posted by jacquilynne at 7:29 AM on December 7, 2003
Wow. Further proof to me that my sense of humor is way off the Metafilter norm. I think A Softer World is, well, consistently brilliant. Funny, painful, beautiful. posted by webmutant at 6:46 PM on December 7, 2003 [1 favorite]

¡°Why?¡± asked Larry, in his practical way. "Sergeant," admonished the Lieutenant, "you mustn't use such language to your men." "Yes," accorded Shorty; "we'll git some rations from camp by this evenin'. Cap will look out for that. Meanwhile, I'll take out two or three o' the boys on a scout into the country, to see if we can't pick up something to eat." Marvor, however, didn't seem satisfied. "The masters always speak truth," he said. "Is this what you tell me?" MRS. B.: Why are they let, then? My song is short. I am near the dead. So Albert's letter remained unanswered¡ªCaro felt that Reuben was unjust. She had grown very critical of him lately, and a smarting dislike coloured her [Pg 337]judgments. After all, it was he who had driven everybody to whatever it was that had disgraced him. He was to blame for Robert's theft, for Albert's treachery, for Richard's base dependence on the Bardons, for George's death, for Benjamin's disappearance, for Tilly's marriage, for Rose's elopement¡ªit was a heavy load, but Caro put the whole of it on Reuben's shoulders, and added, moreover, the tragedy of her own warped life. He was a tyrant, who sucked his children's blood, and cursed them when they succeeded in breaking free. "Tell my lord," said Calverley, "I will attend him instantly." HoME²Ô¾®¿Õ·¬ºÅѸÀ×Á´½Ó
